Purchased the Schwinn 420 for Christmas. In-the-box weight is about 170 pounds so you need help moving it around to unpack. Assemble was pretty easy and took about 1 1/2 hours. Comes with Allen wrench and Phillips screw driver on long end (wish they has separated the tools). The machine works fine, very quiet and easy to use. Why Schwinn/Nautilus would have designed such a poor console to track time, distance, calories, etc. is really beyond me. The display area is about 4 x 2 inches and is exceedingly hard to see. The numbers displayed are hard to read and seems to be reflected against the background so that you actually see two numbers offset from each other. Besides, the lines of the numbers are pencil thin and can only be read in good light. The fan is pretty useless as is the speaker array. There is a good place to hold an iPad or Nook and a huge area against which you could lean an iPad. The console will only keep track of the stats for one user; everyone else needs to use a “guest” designation and all stats are lost when the machine is turned off. Five stars for the machine, 0-1 for the console. Shame on you Schwinn!

Livestrong® LS8.0E Elliptical
March 21st, 2012Enjoy a low-impact workout while diversifying your exercise routine with the Livestrong LS8.0E elliptical trainer. The LS8.0E reduces stress on your legs by mimicking the natural path of your ankle, knee, and hip joints. Because your feet remain on the pedals at all times, there is zero impact, making the trainer a great option for people with sensitive joints, folks who are rehabbing after knee injuries, or even newcomers starting a fitness program for the first time. An elliptical also offers a full-body workout that includes resistance for the quadriceps, chest, back, hamstrings, glutes, triceps, and biceps. As a result, you’ll tone your muscles while keeping your metabolic heart rate up, helping you burn calories long after your workout is finished.
Horizon Fitness EX-69 Elliptical Trainer
March 21st, 2012I started out my search for a quality but NOT super expensive elliptical after seeing the Livestrong brand ellipticals at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I loved the Livestrong 10.0 model for $1000 and watched it for six months to see if if ever went on sale. It didn’t, not at the store or anywhere online. I did more research and found out that Johnson Manufacturing makes both the Livestrong and Horizon brands and are very well respected makers who have been around for years. They are also one of very few who offer a one year warranty on the product. Then Consumer Reports listed the Horizon EX68 as a best buy in 2010. Those are no longer available and this model is the new version of it. Read the rest of this entry »

SIXStar Certification
March 21st, 2012Derived from extensive biomechanics research and user panel testing, SIXstar Certification is a unique combination of the six key elements needed to deliver the smoothest, most natural elliptical feel available.
- ZEROgap provides ideal pedal placement with zero distance between them to eliminate stress on hips and back
- StraightUP body posture keeps your body upright for maximum comfort, minimal fatigue, and faster results
- Low, 10-inch step-on height to make it safer and easier to get on and off this elliptical
- Optimal handlebar spacing puts grips within ideal reach and distance for both small and large-framed users
- The 18-inch FLATellipse foot path provides a more natural foot path, mimicking walking and running motions while minimizing fatigue
- The large drive pulley ratio increases the angular momentum of the elliptical so you get the smoothest, most efficient motion possible
